This is one of my earlier drawings, featuring six distinct species of hummingbirds—each one a testament to the remarkable beauty found in the smallest of creatures. We are fortunate to have several tiny “hummers” visit our feeders each day, their presence bringing life and movement to our surroundings. Despite their delicate size, they possess an astonishing vitality that never fails to captivate me.
Native to the Americas, hummingbirds are extraordinary marvels of nature, with some species facing serious conservation challenges. The smallest among them weighs a mere 0.07 ounces, while the largest reaches just over an ounce—yet within that slight frame exists immense strength and precision. Their wings, uniquely structured, enable breathtaking flight, beating up to 80 times per second in males and around 50 times per second in females.
To witness such energy and resilience embodied in so small a form is truly inspiring, and capturing their brilliance in my artwork remains one of my most rewarding creative pursuits.
